“Lucy” greets customers at the entrance to the Gallery of the Midnight Sun. By Dean Robertson of Yellowknife. The Lynx on display at the Gallery of the Midnight Sun is also by Dean.

Established in 1998, The Gallery of the Midnight Sun is located in the heart of Old Town, Yellowknife, NWT.  Located in a former, historical Northwest Company log building, the Gallery of the Midnight Sun is the largest in the Canadian Arctic and features work from world renowned Canadian Arctic artists.  Many of the artists who display work in the Gallery of the Midnight Sun are featured in permanent collections at major galleries across Canada and Internationally.

On display in the Gallery of the Midnight Sun is one of the largest collections of carvings in any Canadian Gallery along side other traditional northern art such as hand made wall hangings, prints, moccasins, mukluks, kamiks, birch bark baskets, and jewellery made from northern materials including soapstone, caribou antler, muskox horn and moose hide. The Gallery of the Midnight Sun is a family owned business that places an emphasis on exceptional customer service. The Gallery of the Midnight Sun purchases much of its art directly from the artists themselves, helping to support individual artists and the northern economy directly.

Most of the collection at the Gallery of the Midnight Sun are handmade works of northern art. Most of the art is purchased directly from the artists themselves who travel from all over the Canadian Arctic to sell their work to us. Pictured here is a range of traditional clothing from across the Arctic, all hand made and exquisitely detailed. Shown are a traditional Dene beaded wedding dress, moccasins of smoke tanned moosehide, a beaded Amautiq, porcupine quill looms and others.
